DRY EYE SYNDROME?

How can you tell if you have dry eye syndrome?

With dry eyes affecting millions of people worldwide here are some common symptoms to look out for;

. Stinging or burning feeling

. Redness

. Scratchy or gritty

. Feeling like you have something in your eyes

. Light sensitivity

. Mucus in or around your eyes

. Blurred vision

. Eye Fatigue

. Soreness when wearing your contact lenses.

In some case your eyes may water and stream which may be confusing as the condition is called dry eyes. However this happens because the eyes are not getting enough lubrication, the body responds by flooding the eyes with tears to make up for the excess dryness.

For mild to moderate conditions there are a number of over the counter lubricants available at your local pharmacy.

Lubricants usually come in two forms, lubricating drops such as Systane, Hylo-Forte and Thealoze Duo and ointments such Xailin preservative free day and night ointment and VitaPos ointment. Ointments are thicker than drops.

All of these are available at your local pharmacy so just ask your pharmacy team.
